“Not a blazer kind of school”

An article in The Times, entitled More than £1,000 for prep school uniform, cites a number of schools in the South East charging a premium for numerous items of uniform, including blazers, breeches and boaters. South Hampstead High School, however, is referenced as a voice of reason, rallying against “the fashion for expensive clothing.”
‘Not all independent schools match these soaring prices. Vicky Bingham, headmistress at £6,498-a-term South Hampstead High School, said she wanted pupils to feel comfortable and able to focus on more important things than what they were wearing, adding: “We’re not really a blazer kind of school.” Its yellow shirts start at £9.50.’
