Creature Comforts

Mr Jones has hit the headlines during lockdown for creatively mapping out his daily exercise with some cheering animal-shaped art.

As well as devising new timetables and delivering teacher training for Guided Home Learning over the holidays, the Maths Teacher and Director of Studies has been using his daily run to exercise some self-expression.

Using the fitness app Strava, which tracks cycling and running using GPS data, Mr Jones has drawn all sorts of animals including a dog, turtle, elephant and even an Easter bunny. The keen jogger says the routes encouraged him to discover places he’d never been to before. Interviewed by the Hackney Gazette, he said:

“The horse had a proper leg but the tall buildings of the city messed up the GPS on my phone. I was gutted when I finished that run to see how mangled it was. The giraffe is my favourite. I hope my routes make people smile and persuade them to explore some empty streets and make their own.”

Inspired by Mr Jones’ creative fitness regime, Senior Deputy Head, Ms Brass, took to her bike to cycle a route in the shape of one of the school’s iconic eco penguins in West London. With our lockdown co-curricular programme featuring a new, weekly ‘after school’ running club for pupils and staff, we look forward to seeing what other shaped routes emerge!
