Digital Debating

The girls’ enthusiasm for debating is undiminished this term, as clubs and competitions get underway online.

Testament to the flourishing culture of oracy, our Debating Coach set up our first, digital inter-school friendly, with girls taking part in a successful online competition with Stand Out Speaking last month. The following weekend, four of our teams competed at the online finals of the International Competition for Young Debaters, with plenty more friendly fixtures lined up with UCS, Putney High and Godolphin & Latymer over the coming weeks.

Debating clubs and workshops continue ‘after school’ each week, and Upper Sixth students have been taking part in GDST-wide debating and public-speaking electives.

South Hampstead picked up the English-Speaking Union’s Oracy Culture Award 2020 earlier this year.
