Season of Giving

Our Sixth Form Charity Captains have galvanised another half term of positive social action, with numerous fundraising and community initiatives.

The usual end of term activities and celebrations were adapted this year, bringing some festive joy and a little Mehr Licht to the school community and beyond.

In the final week of term, the Sixth Form Charity Team organised a roaming festive fair, with Covid-safe games and quizzes for each year group bubble, all raising funds for the school charity, Teenage Cancer Trust. Girls from the Junior School to the Sixth Form wrote personalised cards to isolated care home residents, while Year 8 made up chocolate gift bags with cheering message for festive parties organised by Norwood – a local charity who support adults with learning disabilities and children with special educational needs.

Although in-person visits have been curtailed by the pandemic, girls have continued to volunteer with Spear, supporting disadvantaged young people in the local community find work, and via our Pensioners’ Link programme, which has shifted online. One silver lining of the pandemic is that partnerships even further afield are flourishing – this term we started working with the Calcutta Social Project, helping children in India to learn English and develop computing skills.

Parents and pupils also donated hundreds of gifts for children in Brent supported by Barnardos, filled 75 rucksacks with presents for local pupils on free school meals, as well as contributing to a local foodbank for this year’s month of Mitzvahs.

Our thanks go to everyone in the school community for giving back and helping to make a difference.
