Debate Hub
One of the highlights of a busy summer term was welcoming over 100 pupils from partner schools for our last debating friendly of the year.
In the penultimate week of term, pupils from over half a dozen local schools joined 30 of our own students for our final Debate Hub competition of the academic year, with pupils debating an array of motions: should Will Smith be cancelled; should trials be televised; and should talented, intelligent teenagers go to university. Congratulations to La Sainte Union who won the Year 7 to 9 section, and UCS and South Hampstead (Charlotte, Sophie and Molly) who jointly won the senior category.
Other highlights of the term included a great evening of speeches at our Summer Public Speaking Competition; up against schools including St Paul’s Girls’ and UCS, Molly in Year 9 won the competition with a speech entitled The Girl Boss Problem. At the GDST Juniors Debating Competition, with 32 teams from across the UK, Imogen in Year 8 and Ria in Year 9 triumphed, with a perfect score! Our senior debaters also fared well at the GDST Seniors Debating Competition, with our teams placing third, fourth and fifth overall.
