Eco Update
Our Eco Committee are focusing on improved recycling rates, promoting active travel to school, and reducing energy usage this year.
For World Car Free Day, we saw an increase in the number of pupils walking, cycling or taking public transport to school – those who came by bike were incentivised with free breakfast! For the year ahead, our Eco Reps are looking at new ways to galvanise the whole school community in an active travel-to-school campaign to continue to reduce the number of car journeys.
Meanwhile, two of our Year 9 pupils arranged a film night for the whole of Year 9 – a fun, after-school social event to help raise funds and awareness for Oceana, an organisation that protects the world’s oceans, with all proceeds going to the charity.
After half term, Year 7 pupils will be continuing our legacy of tree-planting via a new partnership with Woodland Trust. In early November, form times will be spent debating and getting involved in mock COP27 activities, while students will continue to collaborate with pupils across the UK as part of the London Schools Eco Network and UK Schools Sustainability Network; this year, they are focusing on reducing energy usage and food waste.
Earlier in 2022, the school achieved the One Carbon World Carbon Neutral International Standard, for our second consecutive period, as we continue to reduce our carbon footprint and make progress towards our Project Zero goals.
