GCSE Results Day

Rising to the challenge of tougher new GCSEs, Year 11 pupils were celebrating another year of exceptional results across the board this morning.

Congratulations to all our pupils on their results – the school’s second best ever percentage of top grades (A*/9/8s).

For the second year running, over 70% of entries were awarded the top grades: 71% were awarded A*s or 9/8s this year. 53% of entries were awarded A*s or the new very highest grade 9. In a year group of 97 girls, ten students gained at a clean sweep of straight 9/A* grades. 25 students achieved at least nine or more 9s/A*s; one student achieved twelve 9/A* grades, plus a distinction in Further Maths, a subject that many South Hampstead pupils take as an additional qualification.

Highlights among the reformed subjects using the new grading system include Mathematics and other STEM subjects: 53% of Mathematics entries were awarded the very highest new grade 9, along with 45% of Biology entries, 43% of Chemistry entries and 41% of Physics entries. Among the highlights of those subjects still using the legacy grading scale, 83% of English Literature entries were awarded A*, while 71% of History and 88% of Latin entries were A*s.
