Scholars’ Journals
Our Academic Scholars have contributed to a collection of thought-provoking essays on the theme of power.
The Beacon features essays written by Academic Scholars in Year 11 and the Lower Sixth. For the latest edition, students tackled the theme of power from diverse angles, writing about feminism, environmentalism, neuroplasticity and Artificial Intelligence. Read it here. The powerful black and white cover image of the Barbican, taken by Lower Sixth Art Scholar, Amaya, was printed in the school’s darkroom.
The Pilot Light includes articles written by our younger scholars, in Years 7 to 10. Their power-inspired essays cover subjects including supernovae, Greek mythology, nuclear fusion and the media. Read it here. The front cover illustration of a lightbulb was created by Lower Sixth Art Scholar, Jessie.
Chief Scholar, Nyika, oversaw the publication of this year’s editions. “It was a joy to play a part in producing these journals, which involved scholars in older years supporting younger pupils to formulate and discuss ideas. I hope you enjoy exploring the breadth of fascinating topics.”
Each year, pupils in our academic scholarship programme attend symposia, contribute to academic journals, join a cultural trip, and enjoy a celebratory dinner. Academic scholarships are awarded on entry to Year 7 and the Sixth Form.
