Ethics Cup Finalists

GCSE and A Level Philosophy & Religion students competed in the national finals of the Ethics Cup, hosted by the University of St Andrews.

The annual competition, hosted by the University’s Department of Philosophy, aims to promote interest in civil discourse on ethical issues of public concern. Keya, Molly and Sophia (Year 10) and Lily, Isobel and Suchita (Lower Sixth) were undefeated at the regional round earlier this year, securing their spot at the finals. The team travelled up to Scotland this week to pit their wits against students from Eton and Caterham, discussing inter-faith marriages and conversion, if cheating can be justified, and the extent to which journalists must balance the safety of their sources and the truth of their articles.

The girls were brilliant but unfortunately did not qualify for the semi-finals, so they decamped to the beautiful beaches of St Andrews instead. Walking past a cathedral, one of our Academic Scholars told the group that is was the largest church ever built in Scotland but fell into disuse after the Scottish reformation.
