Choir of the Year
Congratulations to our Chamber Choir who have been crowned the Girls’ Schools Association (GSA) Senior Choir of the Year.
Seventeen talented singers from South Hampstead’s Chamber Choir performed at the grand final of the second annual GSA’s Choir of the Year competition and were awarded first place by unanimous decision. The final was held at Wimbledon High School GDST, bringing together choirs from six GSA schools across the country in the Senior category, along with many more who competed in the Junior category.
The girls performed Las Amarillas, arranged by Stephen Hatfield, and Salve Regina, arranged by Josu Elberdin, and were commended by the judges for both the quality of their performance and the range demonstrated in their pieces.
At the end of the competition, the choirs gave the first-ever performance of Singing for Joy, a piece to celebrate the GSA’s landmark 150th anniversary, written by Simon Lole – a renowned composer, choral director, and organist who was also on the panel of judges. Mrs Paul, who joined our parents in the audience, commented: “The choir’s performances were truly amazing and a wonderful testament to the calibre of musical talent at South Hampstead. It was a joy to hear the girls and see them pick up their well-deserved award.”
