Garden Oasis

A new indoor garden aims to bring the outdoors in, providing a calming, biophilic retreat, whatever the weather.

Our state-of-the-art Senior School building, which opened in 2014, spans seven storeys – from the double-height, underground sports hall to the spacious roof terrace with views across London. Thanks to funding from a generous donor, the indoor space on the top floor has recently been transformed into a verdant haven, with cosy nooks amid towering plants offering a quiet place to read and socialise. Pupils are already embracing the new space:

“I love the regeneration of the ‘oasis of calm’. The sofas and beanbags are a great place to relax with my friends and the plants add to the sense of tranquillity.”

“The comfy chairs provide a peaceful corner to work and revise without being disturbed.”

“This and the library are my favourite spots in the school – I really like coming here with a book.”

“It’s an ideal space to chill out with your friends; it’s like the living room of the school.”

Other outdoor spaces for Senior School pupils include the Oakwood garden, an allotment for vegetable growing, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), and our expansive four-acre sports ground, a short walk away.  Our next aim is to revamp the rooftop terrace to create a more flexible, outdoor learning space to be used during lessons as well as at break and lunch times.
