Winter Sports Success

Our athletes have had a brilliant start to the year, with great results across our key winter sports.

In football, our U12 team displayed fantastic skills at their first tournament; the team didn’t concede a single goal throughout the afternoon at St Alban’s High School, finishing in first place. Our U13A team finished as runners-up in an U13 A&B team tournament we hosted for 120 pupils for local schools, while our U14s have progressed to the finals of the ISSSA tournament – a great start to the season.

For the first time in over a decade, our netball squads have qualified for the county finals in all four age groups – congratulations to our U14, U15, U16 and U19 teams who all finished in the top two in the Middlesex county preliminaries. Our netballers have also been in action in friendly matches against local schools and in the first round of the Sisters ‘n’ Sport cup competitions, while our U14 teams travelled to Condover Hall for a weekend tournament run by the Girls’ Schools Association; well done to our U14B team who finished as runners up of the plate competition.

Our cross-country teams raced brilliantly at the ESAA Cross Country Competition; the Senior team finished in first place with stand-out performances from Alex and Izzy in Year 11 taking the individual gold and silver, whilst our Inter and Junior teams placed third. At this week’s Camden cross country competition, our runners had a fantastic afternoon: Skye in Year 7 clinched a bronze, Cleo in Year 7 and Marnie in Year 10 took silvers, and Anastasia in Year 7 and Greta in Year 8 won golds.

Our ski teams have been quick out of the gates this season too, dominating numerous national races. At the British Schoolgirls’ indoor races in Milton Keynes, our A, B, C and D teams all finished in first place; our U16 team won the National Schools Indoor Championships at Hemel Hempstead; our U19A team were crowned champions at the ESSKIA Nationals in Norwich; and three of our teams have qualified for the British Championships in Wales next month – we look forward to tracking their progress on the slopes.

In other sporting news, Eliana in Year 11 represented GB in Slovakia this term; in her first tournament on the U17 European circuit, she secured an impressive win over the top ranked Czech fencer.
