Commended Translator

One of our Sixth Formers has been recognised in a national poetry translation competition.

Congratulations to Isabella in the Lower Sixth for her commendation in the Stephen Spender Prize – a poetry translation competition which aims to celebrate dialogue between different cultures. The Stephen Spender Trust was established in 1997 to honour the poet’s achievements as a translator and cultural activist.

Isabella translated an Italian poem by Eugenio Montale, ‘ho sceso, dandoti il braccio’, which was her grandmother’s favourite poem. Her work was commended in the Under 18 category and will feature in the 2024 Stephen Spender prize booklet and on the trust’s website.
