Kiverstein Singing Contest
Congratulations to all twenty finalists in our annual singing competition, named after one of our former Music Teachers.
The late Diana Kiverstein started teaching singing at South Hampstead Junior School in the 1980s before moving to the Senior School, where she taught for 17 years. Before she retired in 2008, Miss Kiverstein established this singing award in memory of her mother, Leah Kiverstein. Each year, we host a competition to select our Junior Cup (Year 7 to 9) and Senior Cup (Year 10+) winners.
This year’s spectacular final was adjudicated by Eileen Field, who studied singing and piano at the Royal Academy of Music, where she was appointed an associate in 1998; as well as teaching piano and singing from beginners to post-graduate level, she has travelled the world as an ABRSM examiner for almost 40 years. Impressed by the calibre of the girls’ performances, she commented on how much she enjoyed both the preliminary rounds and the final.
The audience was treated a wonderful evening of song in Waterlow Hall, with a special performance by one of last year’s winners while the adjudicator made the difficult to decision to choose this year’s top performers. Congratulations to all our talented finalists, with a special mention to our highly commended entrants (Dalia and Isabella in Year 8, Zara in Year 9, Lara in Year 10, Imogen in Year 11 and Elen in the Lower Sixth), our Junior Cup winner, Charlotte in Year 9, and Senior Cup winner, Elizabeth in Year 11.
