Cross-curricular Enrichment

We have launched a series of enrichment sessions, encouraging students of all ages to make cross-curricular links and expand their horizons.

The new lunchtime seminars started in the autumn term. Each fortnight, teachers from different departments lead a lunchtime seminar that goes beyond the curriculum to explore an area of their subject, linking it to other disciplines. The sessions are open to all Senior School pupils and staff, and we have so far seen packed-out attendance.

The series kicked off in September with a seminar from our Assistant Head (Enrichment), Dr Etheridge, entitled ‘Doubt and Discovery: Scientific Progress and the Crisis of Faith in Nineteenth-Century Literature’. Head of Art History, Dr Slade, led a festive foray into ‘The Mysteries of Santa Claus’, while Head of Classics, Mr Thicknesse, rounded off the term with ‘The Development of Ancient Greek Sculpture’. The line up for the spring term features a collaborative session from our History and English departments, exploring the links between W B Yeats’ poetry and Irish Nationalism, and a seminar on the biology of oceans.

Alongside this teacher-led cross-curricular enrichment programme, we host monthly symposia where our Academic Scholars present ideas about their own areas of interest – part of our ever-expanding academic enrichment offering.
