Spring Sport
2025 has kicked off with a busy schedule of fixtures across a range of sports.
There have been strong performances in netball and football across all year groups, from our A through to H and I teams, as slightly lighter early morning training sessions get underway. Our U12 to U14A netball teams have enjoyed a specialist coaching session with an U21 player from London Pulse, whilst our Year 7 A to C netball teams competed in a GDST regional rally, where our A team finished 3rd and our B team 2nd in their respective groups. Ahead of the summer, indoor cricket is off to a great start too, especially for our U12s who won at Lord’s this month in their first competition as a squad.
In other core sports, our cross-country runners braved a tough and rather muddy course at the London Schools Athletics Association championships, where all our teams placed in the top 4 of their respective age groups. Congratulations to Anastasiia (Year 7), Izzy (Year 11), and Alex (Lower Sixth) who placed in the top 10 in their races in a field of over 100 athletes. Our gymnasts have been working hard this half term to refine their vaults and floor routines; both the U14A and B teams competed in their first gymnastics competition of the year with each individual performing extremely well.
In other sporting news, our ski squad headed to the British Schoolgirls’ Races in Flaine, securing multiple podium places; Cecilia (Year 8) was the overall winner in her age category, whilst the A team took gold in the parallel slalom. Meanwhile, our swimmers recorded some fantastic times at the GDST gala in Guildford; congratulations to Marina K (Year 10) who won two gold medals for the individual medley and 50m breaststroke.
Over 20 of our elite athletes ended the half term with a day at Sutton High School; alongside sports scholars from across the GDST, the girls took part in workshops to help enhance their performance, hearing from a range of experts and professional athletes, including a session with England netballer, Eboni Usoro-Brown, and a talk from Olympic hockey player, Sarah Jones.
