Spanish Sports Tour
Pupils began the holidays with training sessions, matches against local teams, and outdoor activities under sunny skies in Southern Spain.
75 pupils from Years 7 to 9 spent five days fostering teamwork and developing their skills and confidence in a variety of sports on a trip to Andalusia. After football training from local coaches, they returned to the stadium to compete in matches against eight different local teams, stepping up to the challenge with some excellent football skills and team spirit. Our players thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the teams before the matches and even had a chance to brush up on their Spanish.
A day trip to Gibraltar included a dolphin cruise, a visit to St Michael’s cave and the next set of matches – this time, netball. Matches were extremely competitive, with some great transitions through the court and plenty of goals scored. Other activities included an adventure park, bowling and leisure time around the pool, where the PE staff joined the pupils in playing some friendly volleyball. The final day included professional tennis coaching and an opportunity to play padel, one of Europe’s fastest-growing sports.
Amalia in Year 9 reports back on the highlights:
‘The tour was an incredible experience – I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to go on this trip twice now. One of the best parts for me this year was Adventure Amazonia – a park with climbing and zip lines; doing it with my friends was so much fun as it’s not something we usually get to do together. It was a bit scary at times, but a really cool activity. Playing tennis was another highlight; the coach was really friendly and supportive, and even let me play some singles points against him, which helped me gain confidence. The whole trip was so well organised, and I loved how the year groups got to mix. In my group, Burnett’s Ballers, we all got along really well, played some amazing netball and had the best time. A huge thank you to the teachers for organising everything and for making the trip so enjoyable!’
