Hampstead Dancers

This month, girls across the school enjoyed their first dance competition against Hampstead School, while Year 10 dancers took part in an Edifice Dance Theatre workshop.

We were thrilled to welcome so many talented dancers from nearby Hampstead School, as they performed jazz, contemporary, ballet and street routines. From South Hampstead, girls from Year 7 to the Upper Sixth took part: Mira placed 2nd in the KS3 solo section; Giorgia and Sophie placed 2nd in the KS3 group section, with Mira and Aadya in 3rd. Filipa won the KS4 solo section, while Charlotte and Lydia won the KS4 group section. Well done to everyone who took part.

Meanwhile our dancers in Year 10 enjoyed an inspiring and challenging contact improvisation workshop with Harriet Waghorn and her co-director Carmine De Amicis from Edifice Dance Theatre. The girls worked in partners to learn a short repertoire from the dancework Salome and had the opportunity to create some of their own contact movements.

Our dance squads are trained by Head of Dance, Miss Scahill – twice national dance champion, in her native Australia, who has been dancing since the age of six.
