Digital Leaders Film Award

Our digital leaders’ film hit the big screen at the British Film Institute this week, where they were awarded third place in this year’s Childnet Film Competition.

Open to all UK schools, the annual competition invites all young people aged 7 to 18 to take on the challenge of creating a short film about internet safety, showcasing positive and inspiring use of the internet. Our Digital Leaders – Sofia, Ava, Lily, Sadie in Year 7 and Crinan in Year 9 – created a short animation, The Adventures of Mr Button Man in response to the question ‘What is your vision for a better internet?’ The film focuses on how your digital footprint can affect your future. The film-makers all belong to Digital Leaders, one of our many lunchtime clubs.

At this week’s awards ceremony, at the Southbank’s BFI, the girls watched their film (now with its very own BBFC classification rating) on the big screen, alongside the other five finalists and industry guests, before taking to the stage for a Q&A with the expert judging panel. The judges praised the professionalism of their film and the clarity of their message.  Well done to the girls, whose film was selected from over 130 entries this year, which is the competition’s 10th anniversary. As well as their Oscar-style trophy, they each received a goody bag filled with prizes.

Digital Leaders is one of over 140 different clubs and societies that girls can join each term. All pupils are actively encouraged to embrace new co-curricular activities – to develop new skills, discover new interests, take time out from their studies and engage with girls in other years. The Digital Leaders Club is led by our Assistant Head of Digital, who champions the integration of new technology to complement and underpin outstanding learning, encouraging girls to be digitally literate and responsible.
