A Lasting Legacy
We were delighted to receive news of a generous legacy from our former Head of Music to support our South Hampstead Bursary Campaign.
At our alumnae reunion in March 2020, we remembered the life of Jean Middlemiss and the huge contribution she made to South Hampstead over her years as Head of Music from 1957 to 1972. In November this year, we received the news that Jean made a further contribution to the school through a generous legacy to support our means-tested bursaries. At a time when our focus is to open our doors to many more bright young women, regardless of means, this contribution could not be more welcome.
Jean’s cousin, Hilary Salter wrote:
“Teaching at South Hampstead was such a happy and fulfilling time in Jean’s life and she remained friends with many of her pupils and followed their (often remarkable) careers with great interest. When I attended the alumnae reunion lunch in March 2020, with the concert dedicated to Jean, it was clear to me what a very special school it was. Victoria Bingham’s speech was so uplifting and positive. I am so glad that Jean’s connection with South Hampstead will live on and that her legacy will help current and future students.”
Jean’s legacy is remembered through The Minerva Circle, which records and thanks alumnae and their families who have made a gift in their will to a GDST school.
