A Quintet of Headmistresses

Mrs Bingham hosted a lunch for her predecessors to celebrate their legacies and thank them for the support they have given her over the last six years.

We were delighted to welcome former Headmistresses Mrs Averil Burgess (1975 – 1993), Mrs Jean Scott (1993 – 2001), Mrs Jenny Stephen (2005 – 2013), and Ms Helen Pike (2013 – 2016) to the Burgess Room to share memories of their time at South Hampstead and to mark the final term of Mrs Bingham’s tenure.

During the event, we unveiled Mrs Bingham’s portrait, painted by one of our current Art Scholars, Amelia, in the Upper Sixth; Amelia plans to study Biochemistry at university, but is keen to continue her artistic pursuits too. Her artwork will join the collection of paintings and photographs of our former headmistresses which line the corridor leading to the Headmistress’s office.
