Aerospace Engineers
A team of Physicists took part in the UK Space Design Competition at Imperial College London last weekend.
Our team of 11 students from Year 11 and the Lower Sixth spent their Saturday in an industry simulation set in the context of aerospace engineering. Grouped with three other schools to form the Olympus Mons trading company, they were fast-forwarded to the year 2043. Together, they had a day to design a settlement for workers who repair mining robots on the moon, before presenting their design to a panel of judges.
Everyone learnt a huge amount about teamwork and collaboration, but also about resilience as they completed research, design tasks and complex calculations. Their company was praised for how well thought-out the settlement infrastructure was and how carefully they considered the repair line for the mining robots. Special congratulations go to two of our Sixth Formers: Clara, who got elected to lead the finance branch of the company, and Ella, who carefully prepared the team ahead of the competition. Well done to everyone who took part in such a challenging and enjoyable day!
