Aspiring Astrophysicists
A team of budding aeronautical engineers spent their Saturday designing a space settlement at Imperial College London’s UK Space Design Competition.
Twelve students from Year 11 and the Sixth Form worked alongside pupils from other schools as part of a large, industry-style team trying to win the contract to build a manufacturing settlement on Mars. Designing to fulfil the intricate demands of their client, they produced an impressive presentation to communicate their work to a panel of experienced judges.
Students collaborated effectively and showed great resilience throughout the day as they completed research, design tasks and complex calculations. Talia contributed to the micro-modular nuclear reactors to generate electricity; Grace, Anna and Hana developed strong foundations for the manufacturing centre; and Clara lead the team that produced the well thought-through cost model. Many congratulations to all our budding space engineers and astrophysicists!
