Athletics Highlights
Our athletes have had a great start to the season, with numerous podium places and personal bests achieved so far this term.
At the Lea Valley Track & Field Cup, Year 7 to 9 athletes secured 16 personal bests. Congratulations to all our track athletes on their great performances, including: Mabel (2nd) and Rose (3rd) in the 100m; Izzy (1st) and Mimi (3rd) in Junior Girls’ 1500m; Elisa (2nd) and Ellie (4th) in the Intermediate Girls’ 1500m; Bethany (2nd) and Amalya (4th) in the Junior Girls’ 800m; and Alex (2nd) in the Intermediate Girls’ 800m. Field highlights included the top 3 places in javelin, with an impressive 25.5m throw by Year 8 Sports Scholar, Alice, and some excellent long-jumping from Neve and Olivia in Year 8. On the same track less than 24 hours earlier, Sports Scholar Izzy, who won the 1500m, was also crowned the U15 Middlesex Champion in the 800m with a fantastic time of 2.22.
At the Camden Schools Track & Field Competition at Parliament Hill, highlights included 1st (Bethany) and 2nd (Mimi) places in the Year 7 800m; 1st (Izzy) and 2nd (Mabel) place in the Year 8 800m; 1st (Amelia) and 2nd (Isabel) place in the Year 7 200m; and 1st place (Mabel) in the Year 8 200m. Both our relay teams won their races too: Amelia, Jemima, Bethany and Rose in Year 7, and Eloise, Neve, Mabel and Sophie in Year 8. Field events placements are still pending, although Alice, Alice, Bethany and Miller deserve a special mention for competing in the discus for the very first time, as does Eloise on achieving a personal best in the high jump.
Over 30 Year 7 and 8 athletes ended the term with a meet vs City of London School for Girls’ and Channing – the first competition we’ve hosted in over 3 years! Well done to Tamara in Year 8 and Bethany in Year 7 who won their 800m races; Jemima in Year 7 and Amalya in Year 8 who both finished 2nd in their 200m finals; and to the triumphant Year 8 relay team: Amalya, Anya, Constance and Sylvie.
