Charity Award Nomination

South Hampstead is nominated for the Mitzvah Day Outstanding Youth Achievement award.

For the past four years, pupils, staff and parents have been involved in Mitzvah Day, a Hampstead-based charity founded ten years ago by South Hampstead alumna, Laura Marks OBE. For this year’s Mitzvah Day, the school community supported Little Village, a charity helping local families in need, and The Backpack Project, a campaign run by Mary’s Meals. Subsequently, we were shortlisted for the outstanding youth achievement award. Sixth Form Charity Captains, Millie and Daisy, collected our ‘finalists award’ at a ceremony held at the JW3 last month.

During the event, the founder of Little Village thanked South Hampstead. There were also messages from Sajid Javid and the Chief Rabbi, amongst others, congratulating Mitzvah Day on having achieved so much, both in interfaith initiatives and in engaging so many people in social action projects – this year more than 40,000 volunteers took part in over 1200 projects. Former South Hampstead pupil, Laura Marks, was given a special award to acknowledge all her hard work over the past decade.

Through volunteering, fundraising and helping in the local community, South Hampstead girls are engaged in a variety of charitable activities, helping to foster a culture of kindness and an outward-looking ethos; it is one of the many ways that girls here are encouraged to make a difference and be morally responsible citizens of the future.
