Chess Success

Congratulations to our chess club team, who placed third out of 21 schools in the final battle of the season.

Players in our after-school club have continued to practise virtually this year, as well as taking part in an online league for schools across the UK set up by their coach, Lorin D’Costa. At the last meeting of the season, a team of three Year 7 pupils (Alice, Anna and Katie) and two Year 9 pupils (Darcy and Hana) came third,  with a special mention to Hana who scored second overall.

Anna commented: ‘Chess club has been very exciting this year, thanks to all the competitions! I have learnt so much and have definitely improved. Mr D’Costa is an amazing teacher, and the school competitions are always great fun because of the teamwork involved.’

South Hampstead’s chess coach holds the title of International Master as well as being the England International Women’s Coach and Founder of She Plays to Win, a non-profit organisation whose aim is to encourage more girls to learn, play and benefit from chess.
