Coder in Residence
This week, we welcomed a new recruit to our Computer Science department to further ignite our pupils’ interest in coding and technology.
Ms Satoskar joins South Hampstead to lead coding sessions and encourage pupils of all ages to experiment, problem-solve and think critically. With extensive experience in coding and mathematics, she will be visiting the school each week to support students across a range of co-curricular computing programs and national competitions. Ms Satoskar is a third year PhD student in Pure Mathematics at the London School of Geometry and Number Theory (KCL, Imperial, UCL) and has been teaching beginner undergraduate courses and volunteering in outreach activities with schools for several years. The new part-time role is funded by a generous donor.
She joins a growing department at South Hampstead, where pupils have the opportunity to study and pursue a wide range of in-demand and emerging technologies including robotics, artificial intelligence, cyber security, virtual and augmented reality, game development, the internet of things and more. All pupils in Years 7 to 9 have a double period of Computer Science each week and learn to code from Year 7 using the Python programming language. GCSE and A Level Computer Science courses are growing in popularity and increasing number of leavers go on to study computing-related degrees each year.
