Computer Science in Action
Students joined a lecture on Artificial Intelligence and attended this year’s Computer Science in Action event.
We were delighted to welcome Dr Tao Xiang, a Research Scientist Manager at Meta (formerly Facebook) AI and professor of Computer Vision & Machine Learning at the University of Surrey. Dr Xiang provided fascinating insight into the nature of AI, its applications and the potential career opportunities within the industry – a thought-provoking and engaging lecture for pupils in Year 9 and the Lower Sixth.
Our A Level Computer Science students also attended this year’s Computer Science in Action event, hearing from experts in academia and industry: a range of inspiring talks included machine learning; using algorithms for animation and special effects; a computational approach to tackling diseases; and the impact of software on financial trading – an enjoyable day to learn more about how Computer Science impacts the real-world in so many different ways.
