Danish Design Trip
Year 10 students explored Danish architecture and design with a long weekend in Copenhagen.
Our Design & Technology department took a group of GCSE Product Design and Fashion & Textiles students to discover the visual highlights of the Scandinavian city. After a visit to the Women in Architecture exhibition at the Danish Architecture Centre, they took a guided tour to explore the buildings and urban planning of the Ørestad district followed by an evening at Tivoli Gardens, enjoying the rides.
A day of art followed, with visits to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and Copenhagen Contemporary galleries, before a fun, team-bonding escape room activity. Students also dropped into architecture firm 3XN, using the opportunity to talk to architects and modellers about sustainable approaches to design. With the news that their return flights had been cancelled (although later ones were swiftly rebooked) everyone made the most of the extra time to visit the shops of Nyhavn, including Hay, Normann Copenhagen and Illums Borghus, and reflect on the aesthetic highlights of one of the world’s most famous design capitals.
