Drama highlights
The Summer Term has continued to be exceptionally busy and productive for the Drama Department.
In June, The Importance of Being Earnest delighted audiences with beautifully delivered witty dialogue and carefully crafted comic performances. The Sixth Formers’ creative decision to make it an immersive promenade experience around the rooms and grounds of Oakwood added to the authenticity and charm of the play.
“It was so much fun to be involved. Rehearsals were always enjoyable and entertaining. Moving from location to location added another dimension to our performances.” – Yasmin, Millie and Rose in Year 10.
In July, we went from comedy to tragedy – literally – with Year 7, 8 and 9 students wholly embracing the Greek tragedy The Trojan Women, set on the shoreline below the conquered city of Troy. Referred to as one of the most hard-hitting anti-war plays, the audience were at times moved to tears as the students whole-heartedly embraced the tragic situation facing their characters. This was a truly remarkable production with outstanding performances by every student on stage, complemented by beautiful technical elements and design, created and executed by the students backstage. We are very grateful for all the audience donations towards Women for Women International: the performances raised nearly £900 for the charity which helps women survivors of war to rebuild their lives.
“It was an incredible experience. The play was a chance to get know girls I’d never spoken to and I’ve made some really lovely friends. It was an exhilarating feeling going up on stage and I already miss it.” – Athene in Year 9
