Eco Update
Our Eco-Schools committee continues to mobilise Project Zero – an ambitious pupil-led initiative to significantly reduce the school’s environmental impact by our 150th anniversary in 2026.
The Sixth Form eco-champions report back on their recent improvement plans.
‘Our latest initiative is the addition of a recycling bin for batteries and one for plastic items such as pens and wrappers. Batteries are particularly tricky to recycle; 20,000 tonnes end up in landfill every year. As they contain toxic chemicals, they cause significant damage to the local environment and wildlife. They can, however, be recycled safely and this is what we aim to encourage through our new collection point. If you have batteries you would like to recycle, please give them to your daughter to put in the bin, which is clearly labelled outside the library. They will be collected and recycled responsibly. The same goes for plastic wrappers and biros, as we are setting up a similar collection point for them. The committee always welcomes new ideas and input from the whole school community – thank you for your continued support.’
