Eco Week

Our Sixth Form Eco Committee and Eco Reps from across the school mobilised a series of sustainable, educational activities.

The second half of term began with a busy schedule of eco-focused events, including a giveaway of sustainable period products and a hands-on upcycling workshop using natural dyes, with students making scrunchies and hair clip bows from scrap fabrics coloured by beetroot and turmeric. After collecting students’ unwanted or outgrown clothes and books, the Eco Committee held several second-hand sales, with all proceeds donated to the Calcutta Social Project, promoting inclusive and equitable education and lifelong learning opportunities, in line with Sustainable Development Goal #4.

The Eco Committee ran an assembly focused on positive eco initiatives, highlighting the school’s plans with regard to biodiversity, waste and energy, to inspire the whole community’s commitment to effect change – a welcome break from the negative news cycle surrounding the climate crisis.  Staff and students were also invited to an introductory session with Energy Sparks, a platform we use to track our energy consumption as a school, before we ended the week on a creative note, with an eco-poppy making workshop – read more here.
