Edinburgh Fringe
Six Sixth Formers took to the stage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival again this year.
After an action-packed weekend of final rehearsals at school, The South Hampstead Theatre Company headed up to the Scottish capital to stage a 6-day run of Curses – a classic chick-flick trope with a twist, written by Isabella, who was also part of the cast. She was joined by Mira and four fellow Theatre Studies A Level students, Katie, Katya, Lauren (who is also a Drama Scholar) and Paloma. Reviewers praised the show as: “A true hidden gem by a highly talented group of teen actors… highly recommend… brilliant!”
As well as promoting and performing each day, the girls enjoyed a diverse array of street theatre, drama, dance, comedy, and events. The students report back on their experience:
We’d do fun warmups to help us relax and feel prepared before each performance – tips and tricks that we’ll carry forward into our theatrical endeavours in the future. It’s been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we will all treasure forever. – Mira
It was exciting getting to perform in front of lots of new people. I also loved going to watch such a variety of shows – it’s given me lots of inspiration and ideas for Drama A Level. The whole week has been such a great experience. – Paloma
I really enjoyed the whole Fringe experience, meeting the other people doing shows and then going to support each other. I would 100% do it again. – Katie
Drama Scholarships are available to talented performers applying to join the Sixth Form as well as to South Hampstead students moving up from Year 11. Benefits of being a Drama Scholar include membership of the South Hampstead Theatre Company, as well as 1:1 drama coaching and a scholars’ theatre trip. For more information, click here.
