Edinburgh Fringe

The Edinburgh Fringe festival is a calendar highlight for creatives globally, including South Hampstead’s Fuzed Theatre Company.

The beginning of August saw nine students take Mark Ravenhill’s play, Pool: No Water, to the world-renowned arts festival. A cast of eight actors and a lighting designer began rehearsals in February, culminating in an intense final day of rehearsals at school before setting off for Scotland. The play explores the dynamic of friendships when success and privilege lands on one person and others are left in the shadows. The company performed six shows to an attentive and encouraging audience, who gave rave reviews: “A dark yet highly emotional and emotive performance…  accomplished actors… a crisp and engaging production.”  As well as promoting and performing daily, the students watched 22 shows over the six days, experiencing a range of performance styles and genres. The students report back on their highlights:

“The trip was incredible! As someone who doesn’t do Theatre Studies A Level, it gave me the opportunity to see a wealth of different productions – some mind blowing, others highly entertaining. The experience of drumming up an audience, performing and then watching multiple shows in one day was exhilarating and really unforgettable. By the end of the trip, we all agreed that we have to go to the Fringe again because of how much fun we had!” Olivia

“Having to flyer each morning before the show made performing that much more exciting and rewarding. I loved the quick turnaround between performing and then going straight to watch 3 or 4 shows. We saw so much brilliant theatre and the entire atmosphere of the festival was unbeatable – everyone was so excited and supportive. I would do it again in a heartbeat!” Axelle
