Emil & The Detectives

This year’s Lower School production saw Waterlow Hall transformed into Berlin’s cityscape.

Pupils staged a fantastic two-night run of the play based on Erich Kästner’s best-known work; Emil und die Detektive is a classic children’s adventure story about a boy learning to rely on himself, and his new friends, in the streets of Berlin in the 1920s. Fifty pupils in Years 7 to 9 spent months rehearsing for the performances, ably supported by a crew of over a dozen pupils in Years 7, 8 and the Lower Sixth students who took on roles as assistant directors, production managers, technical support, stage managers and costume assistants. The audience was full of admiration for the compelling performances, by such a cohesive and professional cast and crew, as well as the innovative set design. Congratulations to everyone involved in two joyous performances.
