FEAST Partnership
Our new partnership with FEAST With Us is helping to alleviate food poverty in the local community and raise awareness of food and plastic waste.
FEAST stands for Feeding and Empowering All Sustainably Together. In operation across North London, the charity bring together surplus food and volunteers to provide healthy and nutritious meals for the people and communities who need it most. So far this term, our pupils, parents and staff have been collecting hundreds of plastic containers for the JW3, our nearest FEAST centre, to facilitate the distribution of hot meals.
Families from both the Junior and Senior Schools have already donated £1,500 to purchase food for the charity; South Hampstead’s caterers are helping to co-ordinate the efforts, using their purchasing power to supply essential foodstuffs in bulk. Pupils will have the opportunity to engage in social action projects later this year, as well as have their say in the school’s approach to food and plastic waste.
Former South Hampstead pupil Emily Burton, who left South Hampstead in 2015, is now FEAST’s Development & Sustainability Officer: “I’m thrilled that my old school is pioneering our schools partnerships initiative. We are very grateful for the donations and for such positive engagement across the whole South Hampstead community, from pupil eco reps and parents to the staff and catering team.”
Ms Wrigglesworth, our UN-accredited climate change teacher, added: “There are lots of exciting projects in the pipeline, including opportunities for our pupils to cook and volunteer with FEAST. We look forward to working together to identify more ways to raise awareness of the environmental consequences of food and plastic waste, whilst supporting vulnerable individuals in the community.”
