Festive Giving
To celebrate the season of giving, our social action team galvanised the community to support a number of charitable initiatives.
Our student social action team delivered a powerful assembly this term, focusing on the value of giving back. Deputy Head Girl, Natalia, shared her experiences of volunteering at a kindergarten for low-income families in Sri Lanka last summer, with a charity called the Mighty Roar. Another Sixth Former, Sophie, explained why, following her summer volunteering at schools in Pakistan, she launched Empower Her – a mentoring programme that delivers inspiring talks by Pakistani women to provide role models for girls. She is also establishing Education4All: an initiative to help expand the horizons of underprivileged children; Sophie hopes to encourage pupils and staff at South Hampstead to contribute by delivering online skills sessions in problem-solving, creative writing, coding and public speaking to enrich the children’s learning in Pakistan.
Other charitable endeavours this half term have included collecting for local foodbanks for Mitzvah Day, a festive gift drive for families in Brent, carol singing at local care homes, and gift-wrapping for Norwood, who support adults with learning disabilities. Students have also raised hundreds of pounds for charity via second-hand clothes sales during Eco Week, proceeds from House Bake Off, and a festive non-uniform day on the last day of term.
Mrs Paul added: “I am so proud of our whole school community’s many and varied contributions this term; it is wonderful to see the spirit of giving foregrounded for the holiday season.”
