Festive Music-Making
It has been a joy to hear our musicians performing together again, as we record and live stream an impressive array of concerts.
It has been quite a term for our musicians, with every ensemble adjusting to distanced positioning and audience-less performances. Nonetheless, the girls have all risen to the challenge and created lots of lovely performances. From the Harvest Festival in October to the Winter Festival in December, girls across the Junior and Senior Schools have really enjoyed making music together again.
Huge thanks go to Miss Ellis, Mr Beecroft, Mr Christensen, Miss Menezes, Mr Marsden, Mr Judson, and Mr Clewlow for all their ensemble directing this term; to Mr Stevens, the Waterlow Hall Manager, for all the recording and editing of our performances; and to Miss Shakespeare for coordinating the entire department’s events across the term. Thanks also go to all our chamber music coaches (Miss Cohen, Mr Fogg, Miss Corrigan, Miss Clarke, Mr Onissi, Miss Jones, and Miss Thomas) whose ensembles will be performing in January’s Chamber Music Concert, and to Mrs Moore, Miss Tan, Miss Menezes, and Mr Lipski, for ensuring that the Year 1 Strings Project ran so successfully. We are also grateful to our students, Izzy and Iona, for directing Close Harmony and Year 10 Harmony, and to Katie for directing the Ukulele Orchestra to play such cheering festive tunes in the atrium. A final thank you to our Director of Music, Dr Collisson, described in the 2020 Tatler Schools Guide as ‘a genius… absolutely inspirational.’
We very much look forward to welcoming audiences back in person in 2021; in the meantime, the school community can access recordings of the Junior School Winter Concert, Carol Service, Senior School Winter Festival and lunchtime scholars’ recitals via Firefly.
