Film Premiere

Upper Sixth Drama Scholars starred in our third South Hampstead short film production, which premiered this term.

Each year, our Sixth Form Drama Scholars enjoy a range of opportunities, including 1:1 coaching, theatre trips, and performing at the Edinburgh Fringe – the world’s largest arts festival. The short film project was initiated during the pandemic, when travel to Edinburgh was curtailed. Instead, our students embarked on an equally creative and challenging project at school: to produce a short film. The first short film, Trophy Hunters, was shown at a special screening at our local Vue cinema; the second, Bedlam High, was a mash-up between One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and The Breakfast Club.

This year, our scholars once again worked in collaboration with Lucid Dream Pictures. Their short film, Locker 42, centres around our Drama Scholar Lauren’s character, Teegan, and is a thought-provoking look at how she deals with grief. Throughout the process, our students learned valuable technical and practical skills involved in the craft of film-making, including script-writing and working behind the camera.

Several of this year’s Drama Scholars are going on to study Drama next academic year, with offers from Arts Educational and a full scholarship at NYU Tisch; previous Drama Scholars are currently studying at Mountview Drama School and Ruthie Henshall’s CAST, and follow in the footsteps of many illustrious alumnae actors.
