Budding Innovators
Our Coder in Residence is working with Year 7 Computer Scientists to build smart greenhouses.
At lunchtime coding club, our Coder in Residence, Ms Satoskar, is guiding Year 7 students in a project that combines science and technology, encouraging them to develop key skills in environmental monitoring and automation. By using sensors and programming BBC micro:bits, students are learning how to collect data about plant environments and create automated systems that respond to changing conditions. Our budding STEM enthusiasts are exploring how to monitor temperature, humidity, and soil moisture, programming their mini-greenhouses to automatically water plants – an engaging project that teaches pupils about plant science, fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and prepares them for the future of technology.
Our Coder in Residence joins a growing Computer Science department at South Hampstead; the new role, funded by a donor, aims to encourage pupils to experiment with coding and to ignite their interest in emerging technologies. All pupils in Years 7 to 9 have a double period of Computer Science each week and learn to code from Year 7 using the Python programming language.
