Future Skills

Pupils have embarked on a variety of workshops to develop their leadership, team-building and critical thinking skills beyond the classroom.

As part of our Futures Programme, we have welcomed a number of external coaches to deliver a range of activities for Years 7 to 10 this term, as well as diverse careers insight sessions for more senior students.

Sustainability workshops with Bright Green Enterprises encouraged pupils to reflect on their role as global citizens; pupils worked in teams to develop eco-friendly innovations before pitching their prototypes and adverts to the experts.  Ethical ideas included playgrounds that convert kinetic energy into electricity to power local homes, purifiers to provide clean water, and a sustainable ‘super wheel’ to grow edible plants.

Different year groups spent the day outdoors – problem-solving, working with their peers to build bridges, solve puzzles and overcome challenges. Others enjoyed a Young Apprentice-style challenge, developing a company and pitching innovative costume ideas to win a deal with a film producer.

During sessions focused on academic enrichment and leadership, pupils were tasked to work together to design and build towers out of recycled newspapers and solve a murder mystery.  Pupils commented: “It was competitive, challenging and fun to apply logic, work with different classmates, and learn in a different way.”

Students also learned about screenwriting and editing with the One Day Film Company, working in teams to create impressive short films that were premiered later the same day. Congratulations to our budding film-making teams who were awarded Oscars for Best Picture, and to all our pupils for embracing a range of challenges with such creativity and enthusiasm.
