Futures Programme

As our Class of 2024 start to receive early university offers, younger pupils will soon begin to explore a range of higher education options, including overseas study.

This term, as part of our Futures Programme, a cohort of twelve Lower Sixth students took a four-week course on Wednesday evenings to prepare for the College Board’s Scholastic Aptitude Test (the SAT), which can serve as an important part of applications for American colleges and universities. Their instructor, from UES Education, was impressed with their progress and offered useful feedback and targets for their future development and success. Several of the participants spoke of increased confidence following the course.

We also hosted an admissions representative from McGill University in Montreal for the second year in a row to speak about the range of bachelor’s degrees at the international centre of higher education excellence. Students who attended the talk were informed about the practicalities of application and also inspired by the benefits of study in the multi-cultural, bilingual Canadian city.

In December, students interested in European study had the opportunity to hear from admissions representatives from Italian universities: Bocconi University, an international superpower in the fields of business, economics, international relations and AI, and Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, a private university with five campuses and a long history of success. One aspiring medic was particularly interested in their new programme in Bolzano which promises a medical degree taught in English while working with patients either in German or Italian. The event was chaired by Mark Huntington of A Star Future, an expert in European university admissions with impressively comprehensive knowledge of programmes, application procedures and student experiences abroad. He deftly answered students’ questions about programmes in various fields, student life in different countries and the practicalities of applying with or without an EU passport.

Our Sixth Form Team is led by staff with expertise in the applications process for Art & Art Foundation, Medical & Veterinary Science, Oxbridge and UCAS as well as International Universities. Parents and students will have an opportunity to hear more about the logistics of applying to different universities at informational sessions in the spring term.
