GDST Art Awards

At the Girls’ Day School Trust’s inaugural Art Biennale, four students picked up awards at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Shortlisted from over 100 entries across the GDST, four of our artists were among 24 students invited to the awards ceremony at the South London gallery this week.  Guest judges were artists Violeta Bravo and the BP national portrait award winner, James Hague.  Pupils enjoyed a guided tour of the Berthe Morrisot Exhibition and took part in a watercolour workshop before the prizegiving event. Congratulations to our four winners, whose work is displayed in the gallery above:

  • Isla in Year 8 who won bronze in the ‘Abstract’ category for her painting based on Gillian Ayres.
  • Mabel in Year 9 who won bronze in the ‘3D/Sculpture’ category for her burger sculpture from the summer project ‘waste not want not’.
  • Alice in Year 9 who won bronze in the ‘Nature & Landscapes’ category with her textile outcome from this year’s summer project.
  • Virginia in the Lower Sixth who won silver in the ‘Abstract’ category with her large darkroom prints.
