GDST Awards
Two of our Sixth Form students have been awarded prestigious GDST Travel Scholarships.
Each year, the Girls’ Day School Trust awards 10 to 12 travel scholarships up to the value of £800; the grants are awarded to Sixth Form leavers with enterprising personal travel plans. The awarding committee commented that this year’s entries: “sparkled on account of their originality and aspiration.”
Sarya, who joined South Hampstead at Sixth Form, was awarded The Dr Lucy Campion Scholarship. Bequeathed by Dr Campion, a medical practitioner and former GDST pupil, the award is granted to girls who plan to study medicine. Sarya hopes to use the prize money to go to Paris and work with Medicine Sans Frontieres, and has been offered a place to study Medicine at Oxford next year.
Deputy Head Girl Kate, a Music Scholar for singing and double bass, was awarded The Aline Cholmondeley Scholarship. Founded in 1988 by Lady Aline Cholmondeley, another former GDST pupil, the award is given to students who plan to travel in order to study, perform or listen to music. Kate plans to teach music in Greece before studying Education and International Development at Cambridge after a gap year.
Congratulations to both students; we wish them well for realising their plans – hopefully, in the not too distant future.
