GDST Maths Event

Six Year 6 students visited Oxford University’s Mathematical Institute for a day of problem-solving with other GDST mathematicians.

The GDST Maths Day kicked off with an inspiring keynote address from Zoe Griffiths, who explained the mathematics behind smoke rings, before a hands-on workshop led by Sixth Form students from Oxford High School. Our Junior School mathematicians tackled some advanced problems with enthusiasm and skill, working collaboratively and impressing the older students with their creative solutions. It was a day full of mind-bending puzzles, exciting discoveries, and a glimpse into the world of higher mathematics. Our budding mathematicians returned to school buzzing with new ideas – and possibly a few tricks for making smoke rings at home!

I really enjoyed the Mobius loop as it was mind blowing as it only has one side and you can cut it in half an it still stays a loop. Lily
