GDST Song Contest
With Eurovision cancelled this year, the GDST organised an uplifting, lockdown alternative.
All 25 schools across the GDST were invited to submit a solo or group entry to the GDST Song Contest. South Hampstead’s Big Band assembled virtually, having great fun recording their parts on their iPads, with Mr Clewlow and Mr Beecroft pulling together the audio and video for their final piece – a fantastic rendition of Feeling Good. The video featured a dog in school PE kit, an iconic school penguin and several cameo appearances from teachers and Mr Foster’s newborn baby.
The band members – comprising girls from Years 10, 11 and the Sixth Form – were accompanied by guest singer Beatrice, one of our Upper Sixth Music Scholars who runs the school songwriting club. Their entry was streamed alongside the other schools’ songs, with the whole GDST community voting for their favourites, before CEO Cheryl Giovannoni announced the winners. Congratulations to all our Music Department for mobilising such an impressive performance, shortlisted for the Creative Award, and bringing some very welcome cheer.
