Giving Back
The school community has rallied to support, raise funds and volunteer for a wide range of charities this half term.
The Sixth Form-led charity team, Service in Action at South Hampstead (SASH), have continued to lead the way raising money for Action Breaks Silence, this year’s whole school charity. Their Movie Night, the favourite Christmas jumper non-uniform day, the House Bake-Off, stalls at the Festive Fair, as well as sales of Dr Egan’s inimitable knitted toys, have raised in excess of £1,500 since half term alone. Girls and families have done much more besides. Pupils at lunchtime Design & Technology Club produced a mirrored edition of their annual poppy this year – a fittingly symbolic way to reflect on the Armistice Centenary, raising funds for the British Legion. As well as the fantastic Mitzvah Day collection and a Macmillan coffee morning, we also supported Barnado’s providing a range of gifts for local children who have very little at all at this time of year. Our regular visits to three local care homes ended with festive parties, much enjoyed by all – the girls were brilliant in providing singing, treats and something special for the members of each home.
New initiatives this half term have included a venture with the Norwood and Light Up a Life charities who are working together over the festive period to support under-privileged children and families. Year 7 wrapped hundreds of packages of chocolates with individual designs and personal messages in their lunch break last week. The girls also enjoyed a talk about the work the charities do and the impact the chocolate parcels will have. There is much to look forward to in the New Year, including the whole school walk in April. Thank you to everyone for their continued support.
