Grow Your Own Challenge
Each term, girls are encouraged to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths via a challenge undertaken at home.
Designed to develop the girls’ creativity and critical-thinking skills, the tasks encourage our youngest pupils to take risks and try something new.
This term’s task was set during lockdown: to grow your own. Girls incorporated aspects of STEAM into their projects, charting plant growth, creating biomes, investigating optimum levels of light, temperature and water; some even experimented with cooking and eating their results.
Science Co-ordinator, Miss Campbell, was impressed by the ingenuity of the projects and the variety of outcomes, awarding prizes at achievement assembly as follows: Reception – Elizabeth and Alisa; Year 1 – Anjani and Luna; Year 2 – Jessica, Sophia and Zoe M; Year 3 – Ipek, Sylvia C, Zoe and Ellie; Year 4 – Audrey, Amelia and Constance; Year 5 – Marina, Millie and Rachel; Year 6 – Scarlett. Three pairs of sisters, who worked together on the project, were also awarded prizes. Well done to Alice and Lottie, Antonia and Anna, and Isabel and Katie.
Two of our Sixth Form Scientists and STEM champions, Alicia and Michaela, selected their favourite entries. Congratulations to Ella in Reception for her brilliant maths skills and stunning diagrams; Zoe in Year 1 for her fantastic powerpoint and careful documentation; Kitty in Year 2 for her exceptional line graph and diagrams; Annabelle in Year 3 for her creative approach and rainbow tribute to the NHS; Mila in Year 4 for her incredibly detailed powerpoint skills; Evie and Amelie in Year 5 for their use of recyclable materials; and Imogen in Year 6 for her witty, creative approach to STEAM.
