Guided Home Learning
The school community has settled into the first half of the summer term with innovative teaching and learning in a myriad of new environments.
Pupils, teachers and parents have continued to adapt with great resilience and commitment as nearly one thousand homes across London have been transformed into classrooms and workplaces, with staff providing support for the daughters of key workers at school too.
From Reception to the Upper Sixth, over 900 girls have engaged enthusiastically with online sessions and offline tasks, producing impressive work throughout.
Drama students have raided wardrobes to recite lines dressed as characters from The Tempest; Physicists have set up zip lines in living rooms to investigate forces; kitchens have been transformed into Science labs; and used packaging has been creatively upcycled for art and design projects.
In the Junior School, our very youngest pupils have been immersed with online poetry-writing and virtual story times; they have also grown plants outdoors and enjoyed screen-free enrichment days, as well as showing tremendous energy during their Joe Wicks’ workouts. We are grateful to our parents for their support and feedback throughout.
The teachers have been nothing short of phenomenal – thank you!
As part of our Futures Week, Lower Sixth students have taken part in workshops on personal statements and finance and budgeting at university, with all students signing up for UCAS on the very first day it opened.
With GCSEs and A Levels cancelled, Year 11 and Upper Sixth students have embarked on stimulating, bespoke programmes of study to enable them to continue to broaden their horizons whilst preparing for their next step. Upper Sixth students have signed up for electives as varied as the ethics of AI to Renaissance poetry, while Year 11 have been taking courses and developing subject-specific skills in readiness for A Levels and Sixth Form, joined online by pupils from Michaela Community School, as part of our expanding partnership programme.
As half term approaches, we continue to make detailed preparations for the initial phases of returning to school, with the safety of the community and our educational priorities at the heart of our decision-making.
