Gym & Dance Spectacular

The annual show is a highlight of the year and, despite the unprecedented challenges brought by the coronavirus, this year was no exception.

Having put in months of training and rehearsals, girls were determined to carry on with the show, before the school moved to guided home learning for the final week of term.

Dancers, gymnasts and cheer squads from Year 7 to the Sixth Form demonstrated tremendous co-ordination and flexibility in more ways than one, rapidly adapting routines and running orders to allow for dwindling numbers of performers. So many girls stepped up to the challenge, covering absent friends to ensure lifts and cheer pyramids could still go ahead.  With 50 of the 172 girls unable to take part, only half the planned gymnastics routines went ahead, necessitating back-to-back performances and hasty costume changes in the wings.

The rescheduled shows were performed across two afternoons, to a limited audience of pupils. Well done to everyone involved for going above and beyond and showing such strength, agility and camaraderie – the uplifting shows undoubtedly brought some much-needed cheer.
